RITES was a collaboration between myself, dancer Garth Grimball, and musician Michael Libramento. We constructed a 10' tall, 60' long backdrop on the cement foundation of a demolished transmission repair shop in Asheville's River Arts District, along the bank of the French Broad River. Over the course of one month, I live-painted a monochromatic mural inspired by the coming Spring and reemergence of life. In this same spirit, Grimball choreographed a jazz fusion dance piece to a score Libramento composed and performed live with a ten-piece percussion ensemble.
This work was entirely crowd-funded and the performance was free and open to the public.
