5.24 // Snapshots from the Studio

I have been spending more time in the studio lately, giving form to ideas that have been swimming around in my head for years. I’ve been cooking up some concepts for 3D forms that use layers of color and light to give new dimension (both physical and experiential) to my patterns. These are the very first baby steps in this direction, and it excites me beyond belief to imagine what these will grow up to become!

These are sketches for pieces that will be fabricated on a large-scale with multiple overlapping parts.

These are paper-cuts that I made to help me conceptualize layering, movement, and negative space.

I’ve been loving these types of patterns lately, lines and shapes that feel like they’re swirling/spinning/pulling into the center (or from the center?) This photo shows the reality of a studio practice: that things are often drawn on whatever piece of paper is closest. You gotta get the idea down before it disappears!
